| A year or two ago, my sister-in-law was visiting, and I'm thinking it must have been when our dishwasher was on the blink because she went out and bought rubber gloves to wear while washing dishes. I don't particularly care for rubber gloves, so they have been safely ensconced in the back of the under-the-sink cabinet ever since.
Today I found a perfect use for them: I "cleaned" the gas grill. By "cleaned" I actually mean "made slightly less disgusting than it was". I then threw the gloves away.
Also, I figured we'd better keep a close watch on the Canine Department, as both our Main Dog, Danya, and our (to quote Dave Barry) Auxiliary Back-up Dog, Tasha, thought that the crud that I was scooping out of the bottom of the grill made a fine Mid-Afternoon Snack, and I fully expected to see some serious barfing happening later on in the day. Fortunately I was wrong - so far anyway. Let's hope we're not up at night with one of them.
The Teriyaki Shishkebobs were wonderful, thanks for asking. | | |
| Someone tagged me for Fourth Picture Tag, and here is what I found:
The story behind this picture:
In 2006, Terry and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. That same year was also my parents' 50th, my brother Richard's 10th, and my sister Diana's 20th. So my wonderful parents took the eight of us on a cruise in the Caribbean to celebrate. We started from the Dominican Republic and visited a number of islands further south from there.
This picture was actually taken by Diana. She and her husband Brad, plus Richard and his wife Lorraine, did a lot of snorkeling. Terry and I did more walking through towns and visiting a volcano and that kind of thing, but the others really loved being in the water and looking at (and photographing) the fish. After the trip, we shared pictures and that is why this one is saved on my computer!
If you would like to play this Tag, here are the rules: 1) Choose the 4th folder where you store your pictures on your computer 2) Select the 4th picture in the folder 3) Explain the picture 4) Tag 4 people to do the same - I am tagging Sherin, Thom, Nathan and Lori.

| The new dishwasher arrived last Friday. It is glorious. It works. It has some cool features that I didn't even know about, seeing as how I never saw the inside of it - I just ordered it from Terry's Whirlpool website. We did have a few moments of severe "Oh, maaaaaaaan!" when, during the first loading, the dishwasher tipped forward out of the spot under the counter! I wondered if they had forgotten a bolt or something that was supposed to keep it in. We still don't really know; however, the situation has been remedied. My parents happened to be visiting and my Dad is the original Mr. Fix-It. He can fix just about anything (as long as it isn't electrical). His fertile brain apparently went to work, because the day after it first happened, he went to the basement and found a few small pieces of wood. By pulling out a drawer to one side of the dishwasher, he managed to put the pieces of wood on top of it, so now there is no room for leverage...presto! no more tipping forward!
I don't know what on earth I'm going to write about on xanga anymore.

| Yesterday, I started feeling sick. Pretty sure I had a UTI and sure enough, I was right...fortunately, thanks to Modern Chemistry, the bad side effects of that kind of thing can be cleared up pretty quickly. UNfortunately, I think there might be something else going on too - nausea, slight light-headedness, fatigue - what Terry often calls Nameless Crud, because it's not really the flu or a cold or a sinus infection, it's just a lingering malaise.
Today: infection much better, the NC not so much. Here's what I have going on this weekend:
Friday: School Jordan is trying to move as much of his stuff to his apartment (8 blocks away) as possible. Has some friends helping. Lots of commotion; dogs in a total tizzy. Jacob is having two friends over to spend the night, in celebration of his birthday, which is the day after Thanksgiving. Tonight there is a ladies' craft night at church, which I've been looking forward to ever since I heard about it.
Saturday: Cook a turkey for the Harvest Dinner on Sunday Jordan and Allison are having the college group over in the evening and I promised I'd make all kinds of yummy food. I signed up to make a side dish for the Harvest Dinner.
Oy. Fortunately a dear friend offered to make my sidedish, and my dear darling daughters are going to help with the cooking tomorrow. I also decided take-out pizza would be a fine treat for Jacob and his friends (and Jordan and his moving buddies, as it turns out). I did manage to make some brownies and the dough for the pastries I plan to make tomorrow - so the day hasn't been a total wipe-out although I feel pretty wiped out.
At this point I'm leaning towards going to the craft night in spite of how I feel, because, realistically, how restful is it going to be around here? And as long as I don't actually have a fever, I might as well feel lousy there as here, right?
You know, last weekend I didn't really have anything important going on. It would have been much more convenient to get sick then.

| Next installment in our Dishwasher Dilemma....
When last I posted, I mentioned that the top drawer was working. Well, I exaggerated just a bit - it was sort of working. Most of the food was washed off but many of the dishes looked a bit ... dingy.
So I called to have Michael (remember Michael?) call me, and the nice lady took my number and assured me she would message Michael right away with my phone number. I think that was maybe eight, maybe ten days ago. I have not heard from Michael. I'm assuming he didn't get the message (because I'm basically a trusting person) but in the meantime, Terry and I decided that enough is enough; we want out.
I emailed the person who handles all this stuff at Whirlpool to find out what we should do. Several days went by and I didn't hear from her, so Terry suggested maybe we should try the people at Kitchenaid first and see if they had any input.
So I called Kitchenaid's 1-800 number to tell my sad tale to some hapless phone operator there. Fortunately for all the nice employees at Kitchenaid's phone center, the traffic volume was very high and I got tired of waiting and hung up.
This also turned out to be fortunate for me, because today Sophia, the Whirlpool Lady Who Handles These Things called me and informed me that yes, it is possible for us to exchange the dishwasher for a different one (presumably one that works. Consistently.) I just need to send her the model number.
So we say goodbye to the brief Drawer Dishwasher Experiment. We had one, I'd guess, for two or three years. I have to say, I love the concept, and might get one again at some point, but there are too many bugs that need to be worked out first and I'm tired of being a guinea pig. I picked out a regular dishwasher (after comparing the size specifications to make sure it will fit) and sent the number to Sophia.
I'll keep you posted. In the meantime, I think I'm putting a big masking tape "X" back on the dishwasher. If I'm going to wash the dishes by hand anyway, I'd just as soon do it right away rather than wasting that much water to rinse them first.
